The Blue Lamp (doslovno: "Plava lampa") je britanski kriminalistički film iz 1950. godine koga je režirao Basil Dearden i producirao Michael Balcon za Ealing Studios. U njemu je glavnu ulogu igrao Jack Warner tumačeći policajca Georgea Dixona, a osim njega su još nastupali Jimmy Hanley i Dirk Bogarde, kome je uloga mladog kriminalca Toma Rileya u The Blue Lamp bio odskočna daska za kasniju karijeru. Iako je Dixonovo ubistvo jedan od glavnih elemenata zapleta, njegov simpatični lik je ostavio tako dobar utisak na publiku, da je kasnije oživljen za potrebe popularne televizijske serije Dixon of Dock Green.

Film je naslov dobio po plavim svjetiljskama koje su tradicionalno visile izvan britanskih policijskih stanica (a mnoge to još danas čine).

Scenario filma je napisao bivši policajac Thomas Ernest Bennett Clarke, i u svoje vrijeme se često navodio kao primjer društvenog realizma u tadašnjoj britanskoj kinematografiji. Kasniji kritičari su mu, pak, zamjerali romantičan prikaz policije kao čuvara reda i konzervativne društvene vrijednosti.

Film je osvojio četiri nagrade BAFTA za najbolji britanskji film.

Ostavština

Nekoliko likova, ali i glumaca koji su ih tumačili, se poslije pojavilo u Dixon of Dock Green, popularnoj BBC-jevoj TV-seriji koja se snimala od 1955. do 1976.

Godine 1988. Arthur Ellis je za BBC Two napisao satiričku dramu The Black and Blue Lamp u kojoj likovi Rileya (Sean Chapman) i policajca "Taffyja" Hughesa (Karl Johnson)) putuju kroz vrijeme u epizodu naturalističke TV-serije The Filth kako bi zauzeli mjesto svojih suvremenih ekvivalenata.[1] Arhivirano 2008-11-20 na Wayback Machine-u
