Archaeplastida (atau Plantae sensu lato - dalam arti luas) adalah kelompok utama eukariota, yang terdiri dari alga merah (Rhodophyta), ganggang hijau dan tumbuhan darat, bersama-sama dengan sekelompok kecil alga uniseluler air tawar yang disebut glaucophyta.[3] Kloroplas dari semua organisme ini dikelilingi oleh dua membran, menunjukkan mereka berkembang langsung dari cyanobacteria endosimbiotik. Dalam semua kelompok lain selain amoeboid Paulinella chromatophora, kloroplas dikelilingi oleh tiga atau empat membran, menunjukkan mereka diperoleh secara sekunder dari ganggang merah atau hijau.
