Marie-Joseph "Eugène" Sue (pengucapan bahasa Prancis: [ø.ʒɛn sy]; 26 Januari 1804 – 3 Agustus 1857) adalah novelis Prancis. Dia merupakan salah satu penulis yang mempopulerkan genre novel seri di Prancis dengan karyanya, The Mysteries of Paris, yang sangat populer dan banyak ditiru. Karyanya ini diterbitkan di surat kabar sejak 1842 sampai 1843.^[1]

Karier politik

Setelah Revolusi Prancis 1848, dia terpilih menjadi anggota Majelis Legislatif dari konstituensi Paris-Seine pada April 1850. Dia diasingkan dari Paris sebagai konsekuensi dari protesnya terhadap kudeta Prancis 1851. Pengasingan ini mendorong produksi literaturnya.^[2] Sue meninggal di Annecy-le-Vieux, Savoy pada 3 Agustus 1857 dan dimakamkan di Cimetière de Loverchy (Annecy) di Carré des "Dissidents" untuk non-Katolik.

Warisan

• Rue Eugène Sue di Arondisemen XVIIIe kota Paris di dekat stasiun Marcadet-Poissonniers Paris Métro, tidak jauh dari Montmartre dan Sacré-Cœur.
• Calle Eugenio Sue di Polanco, Mexico City.
• Sue adalah karakter di novel Umberto Eco tahun 2010 The Prague Cemetery.
• Sosialis Amerika Serikat Eugene Victor Debs dinamai dari Eugene Sue dan Victor Hugo.
• Dalam novel Thomas Pynchon tahun 2006 Against the Day, seekor anjing pintar bernama Pugnax sedang membaca Sue.
