《Flaming Pie》(플레이밍 파이)는 폴 매카트니가 본인 명의로 발표한 열 번째 솔로 정규 음반으로, 1997년도에 최초 발표했다. 사 년에 걸친 기간 동안 제작된 매카트니의 최초 정규 음반으로서, 그가 참여한 《비틀즈 앤솔로지》 프로젝트와 크게 연관돼 있었다.[1] 음반은 1995년에서 1997년까지 2년간 각지에서 녹음됐으며, 1992년 기원된 두 곡을 포함하여 녹음되었다. 또 매카트니의 가족 일원과 친구의 도움을 받았고 개중에는 매카트니의 아들, 제임스 매카트니가 있다. 《Flaming Pie》의 라이너 노츠에, 매카트니는 다음과 같이 작성했다. "《비틀즈 앤솔로지》는 내게 비틀즈의 표준 및 우리의 노래가 도달한 그 표준을 상기시켰습니다. 그러니 이것은 다시 말해 음반의 골자를 세우는, 말하자면 재교육 과정과 같았습니다."[2]

배경

〈Calico Skies〉[주 1]는 폴 매카트니가 허리케인 밥이 1992년 런던 아일랜드에 당도했을 당시 그곳에 머무르던 그가 작곡했다.[3][4] 〈Great Day〉에는, 그의 아내 린다 매카트니의 백 보컬이 사용되었다.[4] 해당 두 곡의 세션은 《Off the Ground》가 발표되기도 전인 1992년 세션에서 녹음됐다.[주 2][3] 1990년 중엽부터 4년가량[6] 매카트니는 비틀즈 역사를 다루는 다큐멘터리 《비틀즈 앤솔로지》에 관여했다.[7] 다큐멘터리 원제는 동명의 비틀즈 노래 명칭을 딴 《더 롱 앤 더 윈딩 로드》(The Long and Winding Road)였다.[7] 1995년에는, 《Anthology》 음반이 2년에 걸쳐 차례로 발표에 착수했다. 그 기간 동안에 EMI 측은 매카트니가 솔로 음반을 출시하는 것을 원치 않았다.[1] 매카트니는 자기가 "처음에는, 완전히 모욕당한 기분"이었지만, 나중에 "비틀즈 형태의 자기와 대적하는 것은 우둔한 일이잖아요. 그래서 구상이라도 해보려 했지만, 이내 '이런, 음반에 대해 생각도 해선 안 되겠다.' 하고 생각했어요."라고 말했다.[1] 매카트니는 이 시간을 《Standing Stone》 작업에 매진했다.[1]
