Vegetarisme dan agama
Vegetarianism memiliki keterkaitan yang kuat dengan sejumlah agama yang berasal dari India kuno (Jainisme, Hinduisme dan Buddhisme). Dalam Jainisme, vegetarianisme berlaku bagi setiap orang; dalam Hinduisme dan Buddha Mahayana, vegetarianisme dilakukan oleh beberapa orang atau otoritas keagamaan.[1][2] Sementara itu, dalam agama Abrahamik (Yudaisme, Kristen dan Islam) dan dalam Sikhisme, vegetarianisme tidak dipromosikan oleh otoritas secara menyeluruh,[3] meskipun dalam seluruh kepercayaan tersebut terdapat kelompok kecil yang aktif mempromosikan vegetarianisme pada lingkungan keagamaan.[4][5][6]
