Sejarah
Perusahaan ini didirikan oleh Henry Jarvis Raymond dan George Jones di New York City. Edisi pertama koran The New York Times terbitan 18 September 1851 bertuliskan: "Hari ini kami menerbitkan edisi pertama New-York Daily Times, dan kami berencana menerbitkannya setiap hari (kecuali Minggu) sampai waktu yang tidak ditentukan."[6]

Selain surat kabar The New York Times, perusahaan ini juga merupakan pemilik International New York Times dan media-media digitalnya, termasuk NYTimes.com.[7]
Saham
Sejak 1967, perusahaan ini terdaftar di New York Stock Exchange dengan simbol NYT. Dengan dua kategori saham, Class A dan Class B, saham kelas pertama diperdagangkan secara terbuka dan saham kelas terakhir dimiliki secara pribadi, sebagian besar (hampir 90%) dipegang oleh keturunan Adolph Ochs, sosok yang membeli perusahaan The New York Times tahun 1896.
