Michael Hardt (lahir 1960) adalah teoriwan sastra dan filsuf politik Amerika Serikat. Herdt dikenal sebagai penulis buku Empire, which was co-written with Antonio Negri.[3] Buku ini disebut-sebut sebagai "Manifesto Komunis Abad ke-21".[4]
Hardt dan Negri berpendapat bahwa beberapa kekuatan yang mereka anggap mendominasi kehidupan sehari-hari, seperti penindasan kelas, globalisasi, dan komodifikasi jasa (atau produksi berefek), memiliki potensi untuk memicu perubahan sosial dalam dimensi yang tak terbayangkan. Sekuelnya, Multitude: War and Democracy in the Age of Empire, diterbitkan bulan Agustus 2004. Buku ini menegaskan ide yang diusung Empire, yaitu multitude adalah kelompok yang berpotensi menciptakan gerakan demokrasi di tingkat global. Buku ketiga sekaligus yang terakhir, Commonwealth, diterbitkan tahun 2009.
