John Welsh ( c. 1570 –1622) adalah seorang pemimpin Presbiterian Skotlandia. Ia lahir di Dumfriesshire dan kuliah di Universitas Edinburgh dan memperoleh gelar M.A. pada tahun 1588. Ia menjadi pendeta di Selkirk dan menikahi Elizabeth Knox, putri John dan Margaret Knox, sebelum meninggalkan Selkirk.^[2] Welsh kemudian melayani di Kirkcudbright dan Ayr, di mana ia menghabiskan waktu selama lima tahun. Khotbahnya mengakibatkan dia dipenjara atas perintah Raja James VI dari Skotlandia. Pengacara Thomas Hamilton menulis surat kepada James VI tentang Welsh, John Forbes, dan yang lainnya; kasus ini penting karena banyak rakyat James di Skotlandia yang setia pada para pendeta.^[3] Pada tahun 1606 Welsh diasingkan ke Prancis, di mana ia terus berkhotbah.^[4] John Welsh dari Ayr adalah ayah dari Josias Welsh dan kakek dari John Welsh dari Irongray.
