Francine Prose (kelahiran 1 April 1947) adalah seorang penulis Amerika terkenal dan pemenang penghargaan. Ia adalah seorang Profesor Sastra Kunjungan di Kolese Bard dan menjabat sebagai presiden Pusat PEN Amerika dan duduk di badan-badan untuk beberapa penghargaan.

Kehidupan dan karier

Prose lulus dari Kolese Radcliffe pada 1968. Ia mendapatkan Penghargaan Penerjemahan PEN pada 1988 dan menjadi anggota persekutuan Guggenheim pada 1991. Novel Prose The Glorious Ones diadaptasi dalam sebuah musikal dengan nama yang sama oleh Lynn Ahrens dan Stephen Flaherty. Musikal tersebut dijalankan di Teater Mitzi E. Newhouse di Lincoln Center di New York City pada musim gugur 2007.

Pada Maret 2007, Prose dipilih untuk menggantikan penulis Amerika Ron Chernow pada awal April untuk memegang masa jabatan selama setahun sebagai presiden Pusat PEN Amerika,^[1][2] sebuah perhimpunan sastra para penulis, penyunting dan penerjemah yang bermarkas di New York City yang berkarya untuk memajukan sastra, mempertahankan kebebasan berekspresi, dan memperkuat persekutuan sastra internasional. Pada Maret 2008, Prose gagal maju untuk jabatan setahun keduanya sebagai presiden Pusat PEN Amerika.^[3] Pada bulan yang sama, artis London Sebastian Horsley membantah entri di Amerika Serikat and presiden PEN Prose kemudian diundang Horsley untuk berpidato di perayaan sastra internasional tahunan PEN di New York pada akhir April 2008.^[4] Prose digantikan oleh filsuf dan novelis Kwame Anthony Appiah sebagai presiden PEN pada April 2009.^[5][6]
