Donald Richie (17 April 1924 – 19 Februari 2013) adalah seorang pengarang kelahiran Amerika yang menulis tentang orang Jepang, budaya Jepang, dan secara khusus sinema Jepang.^[1] Meskipun ia menganggap dirinya sendiri mengutamakan diri sebagai seorang sejarawan film,^[2] Richie juga menyutradarai beberapa film eksperimental, film yang pertama dibuat ketika ia berusia 17 tahun.^[3]

Biografi

Richie lahir di Lima, Ohio.

Meskipun Richie dapat berbicara menggunakan bahasa Jepang, ia tidak dapat membaca dan menulis menggunakan bahasa tersebut secara sempurna.^[4]

Richie meninggal, pada usia 88 tahun, pada 19 Februari 2013, di Tokyo.^[5]

Sinema Jepang

Richie menulis subtitel Inggris untuk film-film Akira Kurosawa Kagemusha (1980), Red Beard, dan Dreams (1990).^[6]
