Tapahtumia
- Ruotsin ensimmäinen ruotsinkielinen ammattiteatterin esitys Den Svenska Sprätthöken Tukholman Bollhuset-talossa. Näytelmän kirjoitti Carl Gyllenborg.
- Göttingenin Georg-August-yliopisto perustettiin.
- Ranskalaiset Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau ja Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon julkaisivat ensimmäisen tieteellisen teoksen puiden vuosirenkaista.[1]
