Scoil Mhuire, is an Irish co-educational post-primary school in Clane, County Kildare. The school is on the western outskirts of Clane, off the Prosperous Road (the R403).
Originally founded as a girls' school, the first boys entered the secondary school in 1967 and it has continued to expand its enrollment numbers and its campus.[1] It became a community school in 1983 after the opening of a new building and an additional expansion was completed in September 2001.[1] The school is run by a Board of Managers, which is composed of 10 trustees, teachers, and parents who have been elected to the Board.[1]
On 8 April, 2016 enrollment was over 1000 students[2] (with a roughly 50:50 ratio of boys and girls, aged 12 to 18) and a teaching staff of more than 70. As of 2024, these numbers have increased to over 1200 students and more than 80 staff.[1]
The school operates the Transition Year, the Leaving Cert Applied, and the Leaving Cert Vocational Programs. Students also pursue programs in physical education and religious studies.[citation needed]
Adult education is promoted at Scoil Mhuire, which is one of the largest adult education schools in the country. The enrollment numbers for adult education programs are also in the thousands.[1]
In 2022, the school was fined for the unfair firing of an educator for gross misconduct.[3]
