Neil Dorfsman

Neil Dorfsman ist ein US-amerikanischer Musikproduzent und Toningenieur, der vor allem durch seine Arbeit mit den Dire Straits, Bruce Hornsby, Mark Knopfler, Paul McCartney und Sting bekannt wurde. Er gewann drei Grammy Awards und war sechs weitere Male nominiert.[1]

Leben und Wirken

Dorfsman wurde in Manhattan geboren und wuchs auf Long Island auf.[2] Er begann seine Karriere in den Electric Lady Studios. Hier wurde er von Eddie Kramer ausgebildet.[3] Auch arbeitete er im Studio The Power Station, wo er dann in den 1970er Jahren zu den festen Toningenieuren zählte. Mit Stand 2014 lebte Dorfsman in La Jolla, Kalifornien.[4]

Auszeichnungen

Dorfsman gewann den Grammy Award for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical 1988. Zudem nahm er zwei Stücke für Stings Brand New Day (1999) auf, das den Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album erhielt, wodurch er hierfür ebenfalls als Gewinner geführt wird. Einen Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical erhielt er für das Dire-Straits-Album Brothers in Arms (1985). Sechs Nominierungen für einen Grammy hatte er zudem erhalten, für den erstgenannten Preis für das Album Brothers in Arms (1985) gemeinsam mit Mark Knopfler, für den letztgenannten bereits für Love over Gold (1982), ebenfalls von den Dire Straits. Für Brothers in Arms als Album of the Year und die Single Money for Nothing als Record of the Year (beide 1985) sowie für Stings … Nothing Like the Sun (1987) ebenfalls als Album of the Year stehen drei weitere Nominierungen zu Buche. Überdies war er 1990 für die Best Engineered Recording – Non-Classical für Flowers in the Dirt von Paul McCartney nominiert.[1]

Außerdem mischte er Olde School von East Village Opera Company ab, das 2009 eine Grammy-Nominierung für den Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover Album erhielt, die allerdings nicht Dorfsman zugeschrieben wird. 1988 und 1998 wurde Dorfsman jedoch mit dem TEC Award für den „Engineer of the Year“ ausgezeichnet.[5]
